Nautical fuel tanks
Merin manufactures flexible tanks made of rubberized fabric in various shapes and sizes, for both original equipment and replacement of original tanks. Typical applications include offshore race boats, pleasure yachts, military special operations boats, patrol boats, and 50 Au. The flexible tank can have an anti-flame or self-sealing wall. Our tanks can be used with all types of fuels. In the case of fuels containing high percentages of alcohol (over 20%), the internal surface of the tank is protected using fluorinated polymers.
Marine tanks containing gasoline pass the fire test required by standards 150/10088 (see DNV certificate and video) and 150/21487. Merin can manufacture nautical tanks with a capacity of up to 5000 liters. All tanks are made according to customer designs.
ORIGINAL BLADDER FUEL TANKS REPLACEMENT
Traditionally, nautical tanks (yachts, catamarans, other boats) are built with stainless steel sheet metal or integrated composite. Both solutions present problems:
1. STAINLESS STEEL TANKS
Over time, galvanic corrosion occurs at the welds, leading to tank perforation. Repairing or replacing these tanks is a complex and costly task that can also involve dismantling structural parts.
2. STRUCTURAL TANKS
This solution does not always guarantee fuel confinement, as imperfect sealing can lead to fuel permeation into various areas of the boat's structure.
The use of flexible tanks solves both problems:
- Prevents hull structure permeation;
- Avoids issues with stray currents that cause corrosion.
The flexible wall structure of the tank consists of a Nylon fabric coated with a fuel-resistant compound (thickness approximately 1.3/1.4 mm). The interior of the tanks can be conveniently filled with open-cell polyurethane foam, which has anti-slosh and anti-explosion functions (see attached datasheet).
